Vinyl window insulation
Vinyl windows should be insulated in the frames for increased energy efficiency. The insulation varies depending upon the manufacturer. Thermal Industries manufacturers an exclusive line of vinyl replacement windows called the Park Avenue Window collection.
These windows are foam filled in the frames and sashes. They use a Dow blue foam insulation that claims an r-value over 10. This means that the window will have a better performance than a non-insulated frame. It is a good idea for the consumer to research windows that have these kinds of energy performances. It is confusing sometimes to when other manufacturers claim higher energy performances without these insulated frames.
Some have foam but only around the frame. This will not perform as well as the windows that have the foam in the frames and sashes of the replacement windows. There are different types of insulation.
